Vegan CupCake Q&A
Vegan Fortune Cookies?
We’re having (homemade) chinese food for dinner tonight and I was feeling ambitious and thought I’d try and make some fortune cookies. However, all the recipes I found call for egg whites, or egg replacer, which I don’t have (and I’m not going out to the store before dinner). Does anyone know of a fortune cookie recipe that doesn’t need egg whites (or EnerG or whatever), or know of a homemade egg replacer I can use?
Protein shakes in powder form?
Im a beginner at vegitarianism, so Im still eating meat occasionaly, or products that go against the vegitarian lifestyle. Ive read somewhere that just because something says vegan or vegetarian on it, that it still may have things in the ingredients that arent actually that way. Like if it has casien in it, or bee pollen, etc. Like I said Im a beginner, I still dont know it all.
One of the main things is that I wake up at 5am and arrive at work at 6am, then dont get home until around 4pm. From the time that I wake up until I get home, the only thing I’ll eat are meal replacement bars, shakes, and fruit and veggies in snack form. Honestly when I am working, if I eat too much I get sick from all the moving around I do. Which is why I prefer shakes and bars. I used to drink Atkins shakes becuase they were the only ones that didnt mess my stomach up, same with their bars.
So are there any meal replacement shakes in powder form so I can mix it with rice milk and are there any meal replacement or snack bars. I know of Cliff bars, I like those and I was told they are vegan. I have heard of Spiru-tein powders and bars, those are supposed to be vegetarian. If any of that isnt right, please let me know. Since I prefer shakes and bars while I am working, Id like to keep with that but use vegetarian style to it. Nothing against the vegans, I just dont like the bees, they scare the hell out of me.
Also, I live with my parents still, sad but true, and with waking up that early, I cant use a blender to make a shake from scratch. I can after work though. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
FIRM vegie burger recipe? (Vegan)?
I’ve been experimenting with making my own vegie burgers lately, but I just can’t seem to make them firm.
I’m vegan, so I can’t use eggs as a binder, and I don’t have that egg-replacer stuff. It scares me somewhat..
Do you guys have any favourite tried and true recipes for firm vegie burgers?
Thanks in advance!
Does anyone know how to make vegan cakes soft, light, smooth, AND sort of dry-textured?
I’ve tried a few recipes, the ones without egg substitutes were dense and they were good, but not the light and smooth texture I was looking for. When I used Ener G egg replacement, I found that the cake was all together lighter, but it was more moist…….
I’ve tasted vegan cakes with these characterists from health food stores, vanilla cakes, from 40$-60$ for a little strip!! It’s so good, but so expensive!! So if anyone knows the secret, please please let it out so we can all enjoy!!!
Is going vegan more expensive than just being vegetarian?
I don’t know much about going vegan, so I’m researching it.
I’ve been vegetarian for 3 years, but when i move away to university in a year and a half, I’m hoping to become vegan.
As of now, I buy the mock meats and stuff,
but i still drink milk and cheese etc.
If I went vegan, would buying the vegan substitutes be more expensive?
Where can I find a 100% Egg Free Egg substitute?? And what are some brands?
I’m a strict vegan and most of the egg substitutes have egg whites in them. What are some brands that I can buy? And where can I can find them? Does Jewel’s or Dominick’s have 100% Natural Egg Free Egg substitutes?
give me some tips on becoming a vegan?
i don’t want to get sick while im trying to become a vegan… so can you guys give me some specific names of foods i need to eat to be healthy? like a substitute for butter and other foods and where i can buy them?
Vegans/vegetarians only please?
I want to hear from people who are vegan (and healthy!!) and yet don’t use ANY soya at all, or any other “meat replacement” stuff. For me it’s important that if I believe veganism is the proper way for humans to eat, then I shouldn’t need a replacement for meat, or other animal products either (milk, for example)!! The problem I have with soya by the way is that I don’t believe we are meant to eat it any more than we are meant to eat animals – there are too many health risks associated with consuming it. What are people’s thoughts on this?
As frighteningly few people answering this question seem to be aware that there even IS a health debate about soy, never mind that as vegetarians/vegans it is vital that they know something about it, I thought I’d post a few links. This is because these sites describe my concerns more eloquently than I can in this small space and may do something to alert you to the fact that this stuff is not entirely benign – anything but, in fact.

http://www.mercola.com/2004/jan/21/soy.htm
The second link, you have to subscribe to – but it is free and WELL worth it since there are lots of extremely informative, though-provoking articles on it about soy. There are many many more – just google “soy danger”, “soy health risks” and DO YOUR HOMEWORK if you eat a lot of soy.
And for the record soy is NOT, and never has been, a “staple” food in Asia. They eat it in really very small quantities and certainly do not derive the majority of their protein from it!
It strikes me in any case that an alternative diet/way of life is a pretty poor one if all it tries to do is imitate the “norm” (but as I see it, not the natural!). So this is why I want to avoid “meat replacement” products – and “milk substitutes” as well – if we as a species had never thought of using another creature’s flesh or mammary secretions as sustenance then it would also never have occurred to us that we could try and simulate alternatives. It’s like saying to the world, “See, see! We CAN eat like you, look!” when I think that we ought to be saying “We eat differently.”.
How do I slowly change me ways to a vegan life style?
I’m a vegetarian but I want to become a vegan.
I already don’t eat meat, fish, or eggs.
so all I have left to cut out is dairy, right?
Do you just STOP or do it over time?
What are some replacement foods and tips?
Thank you for your help!
I’m making vegan samosas and ran out of soymilk. Can I substitute water or vegetable broth for the soymilk in ?
the dough for the samosas? Or would that taste terrible? Or can I ever just use water to replace the milk in a dough recipe? All I have is Vanilla soymilk. Very vanilla.
