Cake with no eggs recipe?

My son has an egg allergy and his birthday is this weekend. I would love for him to have a cake. My mom tried the substitute recipe for a egg in her cake, and it fell all to pieces. It is one of the vinegar substitutes. I am not sure what to do. Does anyone have any great egg free recipes I can try? I am not a vegan recipe lover, just need a recipe with out eggs. Milk, soy, wheat is fine. I can Goolge TONS of recipes just don’t have time to make them and try them all… SO, I need input of people who have actually TRIED the recipes they are suggesting! Thanks!

Vegetarianism?

I recently became a vegetarian; I have never been fond of meat, except occasionally chicken or crab so its been easy for me. However, I LOVE cheese and dairy products. I would love to make a transition to veganism , but it seems so difficult because dairy is in almost EVERYTHING. Does anyone have any tips on switching off of dairy products to alternative ‘dairy’ (soy milk, veggie cheese)?

Also, does anyone know a good substitute for milk or cheese? I tried soy milk and it is WAY too sweet, I dont like it at all. It tastes like a vanilla milkshake. Any good vegetarian foods/vegan food suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you!

PS. Yes, I DO get protein. I am addicted to kidney beans.
I also eat tofu occasionally (in soup) and im experimenting with grilling it w/soy sauce! Also, what is the taste difference between rice milk and soy milk?

Vegetarians/Vegans have you ever found meat in your food…?

Today I took my mother out to breakfast at IHOP(early Mother’s Day thing). I personally am not a big fan, but since we woke up late, IHOP was the only place to really go. I decided to order French toast with egg substitute and spinach in the eggs. As I was cutting one of the French toast slices, I ended up finding a small piece of grilled chicken which my mother ate to confirm that it was indeed grilled chicken(she’s not a vegetarian). My mother complained and I did not have to pay for my part of the meal. I’m really hoping that there was only one piece of chicken, and that I didn’t accidentally eat some meat.

So my question is to you, have you ever gone to a restaurant and ordered something meat free, only to find that there is meat in it anyways?

Has anyone tried making vegan yogurt/sour cream in a yogurt machine?

If I add acidophillus culture to rice or soy milk and use a regular yogurt machine, will this work, and will it taste any good? Anyone on here ever tried this?

Fermented foods like sour cream have a certain zing to them that you just don’t get from sour cream substitutes based on tofu and vinegar. I’m wondering if it will taste better if it’s made with fermentation.

Also I like the flavor of sour cream more than yogurt how can I make something that tastes like sour cream in a yogurt machine?

what is a quick and easy vegetarian meal? Also what is something good vegetarian wise for a dedicated dancer?

im having problems on finding good substitutes for meat, other than fish and eggs! I have my beliefs and i don’t want to leave them , but as i get more serious about dancing i really need protein! I am not a vegan though!

How do I tell my parents I am going vegan?

I am young, (as in I still live with my parents), and have tried to go vegetarian before. The thing is when I did it, I did it for the wrong reasons. Recently, my friend showed me a video of what happens to animals in factory farms and the like, why it’s bad for the environment, etc., and I was convinced. I know my parents will probably make fun of me and won’t buy me substitutes for foods like cheese. It’s easy to cut out milk because my mom is lactose intolerant so we already get soy-milk, but things like cheese, butter, and eggs will be harder for me to convince my parents to get me. What do I do?

I Want To Switch To A Vegetarian Diet And Ultimately Vegan. How Can I Do So? Will The Transition Be Easy?

So I do eat chicken, turkey and fish but I do so in moderation (small portions per day) and a few times per week. For example, I eat fish one time per week. If I do eat chicken, I only eat drumsticks and I will only eat two per day. I eat turkey but its only like ground turkey and I will eat 1 pound over the course of 3-4 days. So I do eat them in moderation. I don’t eat any diary products, but instead drink soy milk, eat vegan cheese, etc. I do eat eggs, but only 2-3 times per week and I only eat the organic brown ones.

I’ve realized that it would be best for me to switch to a complete vegetarian diet mainly for health reasons. Although I only eat turkey, fish and chicken in moderation, I’ve noticed that they have a lot of fat (especially saturated fat-which can lead to heart disease and other complications).

I am very very health conscious and consume as much foods as I can that are organic. The only foods I eat that are not organic are the ones that are not available in organic. I’m 22 years old and 145 pounds so I want to do as much as I can to live a healthy lifestyle.

I just want to know if I cut out the chicken, fish and turkey from my diet but keep the eggs (they will be the only animal product I will be consuming) if I will be on a complete vegetarian diet.

What foods can I use in place of those products and how will the transition be for me? I’m scared that I will go back to eating those products. I know there’s meat substitues like imitation chicken, etc. Are those really healthy? Apart from fruits, veggies and other organic products, are foods such as veggie burgers, veggie based cheeses and meat substitutes really healthy? Will I get all the necessary nutrients I need to be healthy?

Thanks!

VEGANS!! Please Help Me!!!!?

Hi. I’m 15 years old, and I have been a complete vegetarian since I was 10 (no meat, poultry, gelatin, and other by-products). Two years ago I decided to become a vegan, but my doctor told my parents that I was too young, so they didn’t let me. As a strong animal rights activist, I feel like a hypocrite eating dairy products, since I’m aware of the extreme abuse of dairy-producing animals on factory farms. I’ve decided to become a vegan again, but I was looking at a list of what they can’t eat, and it’s overwhelming! What can I eat as a substitute for cheese, milk, eggs, etc.?

Veganism!?!?!?!?! (vegan)???

Hi.
I am a vegetarian and am an ealry teen. I have been a vegetarian for 1 or 1 1/2 years now. My next step is being vegan.
Some things are in my way are:
~ my mom wanting me to be happy (if i go vegan)
~ wanting me to eat eggs at breakfast places if there isnt like oatmeal or anything vegan.

Here are some of my questions:

~ are vegans healthier than vegetarians??
~ what do you buy? (my family buys meat substitutes)
~ do you go out to eat??
~ what do you like to eat?
~ should i go vegan??

Those are my questions.

Please answer them honestly and don’t get mad if i want to go vegan, it is my choice!!!!!!

Thanx!!!=]

Does anyone have a good vegan recipe for lentil soup?

An easy recipe would be best, as I am on a very tight schedule, have limited kitchen resources and limited cooking skills. It would be be fine if the recipe is not intended as vegan, as long as it would hold up without meat, dairy, eggs or non-organic sugar. (Keep in mind that I do have substitutes for everything but eggs, they just aren’t exactly the same consistency.)

Thanks!
When I say “limited cooking skills,” I don’t mean anything drastic. I don’t know much, but I’m willing to learn, and I know how to do pretty much anything you’d probably have to do for soup.

Perhaps “simple” is a better word for the kind of recipe I’m looking for than “easy.”

I really care about animals and I really want to go vegan, will this be enough to convince my parents?

I have recently HAND WRITTEN 16 pages on why I want to and should go vegan. I have covered health, protein substitutes, me cooking my own meals, animal products and why we shouldn’t buy or eat them, I’ve covered animals that are being skinned, milked, etc., and their conditions in slaughter houses and/ or fur houses.

Will this be enough?
And I don’t care if you object, I know what I am doing and I know that I will be happier than all of you that object because I am standing up for what I truly believe in.
thanks for supporting me this time you guys :D and I am already a vegetarian its mainly the protein issue and etc. But I covered that all and I am trying to get some money so I can help start off my new lifestyle :D

Help! Vegansss?

i was a vegetarian for basically my whole life, i never ate any red meat but i ate dairy products and chicken. i recently have decided to go vegan, and have been successful for the past few days. i have been living on the food that i have at home, but i am going grocery shopping tomorrow & i’d like to know some things: does soy milk taste like skim milk? (skim is all i’ve ever had) & does chocolate soy milk taste good, in your opinion? what about egg substitutes? also, are organic snacks (cookies, etc) just as good as normal ones? please give me suggestions on what to purchase! thanks so much <3
i decided to become a vegan because i just strongly disagree with all of the animal torture. and i dont even like the taste of things that are derivitive of animals. i also want to be healthier, but thats besides the point.
game boy – isnt chicken considered poultry, not meat? that’s what i was always told. but whatever lol

What can Vegans eat and not eat? Can they chew gum?

iJust need a list of vegan dos and donts. Can they chew gum, and what kind of milk and cheese can they eat? What do the meat substitutes include?

I need help going vegan?

I’m a vegetarian of 8 years [no meat or eggs] & the only dairy i have been eating are cheese and ice cream. I decided for a New Years Resolution to go full vegan. I love stuffed crust cheese pizza though so how would I be able to substitute that and also pizza from pizza chains? Will pizza chains suit to vegans? Is sorbet vegan friendly? [I never see this tofrutti icecream at grocery stores] Is ice cream made with seaweed vegan friendly and what brands make seaweed or vegan friendly icecream and where can I find them? What were your experiences like when first becoming vegan? Any random info or stories would be sweeeeet too =]
It was easy for me to go without meat and eggs because I never liked eggs or most meat. The only meat I really ate before 6th grade was fast food burgers then I found out meat came from animals and when I found that out in 6th grade I became a vegetarian.

Is there any website that proves veganism is completely healthy and it won’t make you sick?

My mom believes that veganism will kill me just because she knows vegans that daily take shots.. Post any websites or articles that explain veganism can be healthy and/or post websites that explain food you could substitute instead of milk and eggs.. Please help me!

Vegan Eggplant Parmesan and other stuff with EggPlant and Broccolli?

Hi Folks
I got a warning from my doc about the lipid level and body and was asked to go Vegan or else ……..
So here I am trying my level best to go Vegan ( == No Meat , No Eggs but Dairy is fine ) .
Admittedly the Big T , Big M and Big Friday have been my dining ever since my wife left me to find someone else. I never paid attention to cooking but now its time to convert the Kitchen back from the spare study I made of it , put on the gas , start searching for the lost utensils……..!!!
I wondered if anyone ever knows how to make Stuff from Eggplant – like eggplant Parmesan without any meat and add cheese substitutes and low cal stuff. What ELSE can you cook using Eggplants. I dont want to spend a whole bunch of time .Want something easy snappy and ready type.
On the same lines what can you do with the following stuff :
– Brocolli
- Cauliflower
- Squash
-Bell Peppers
Something quick…stuff that I can put on , leave for a bath and have ready.
Thanks a plenty !!!

Question to Vegans/Vegetarians about circumstances of eating/using an animal. Would you in this situation?

First of all, I’m a vegetarian and I’ve been one for about 4 and half years, though in the past year or two I’ve started to eat seafood. I did it for lent and then just continued because it seemed healthy. But I wanted to ask this to other vegans/vegetarians. Would you eat an animal if it died after just living its life in normal circumstances – on an open field, healthy diet, living with its family; how an animal is supposed to naturally live. Or what if some one owned a farm and let their animals roam freely in an open area, eating healthy, ect. AND it was killed humanely, without any pain caused to the animal. Would you eat it then? And also with milk or wool. What if the baby calf was given an equally nutritious milk substitute and the cow’s milk was used to market. Or what I said earlier, what if a sheep died in its natural environment – would you use its fur? The list of examples could go on and on, but you get the point. Would you eat/use the animals in these situations?
I am a pescatarian, thank you Hollywood.
Pleas tell me what you think about fur though.

Will this recipe work? (3 part question)?

Haha, I know nothing about cooking. What I do know is I recently went vegan but am dying for chocolate chip cookies. So I found a recipe, but it’s three parts that I have two separate questions for:

Cookie recipe (minus the carob chips):
1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 egg substitute (1/4 cup unsweet applesauce)
1 teaspoon vanilla
6 packets splenda no-calorie sweetener
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

Chocolate for “peppermint patties” recipe:
9 tbsp cocoa powder
7 tbsp sugar
3 tablespoons vegan margarine
4 or 5 tbsp water
All heated in a saucepan

Now here are my questions:
1. Will that cookie recipe come out right using splenda packets? That’s what it called for, I don’t know shit about cooking…

2. That chocolate recipe, would it work if I made that and then dripped it onto wax paper to make “chocolate chips”?

3. Would that chocolate recipe still work if I used splenda no-calorie sweetener instead of sugar?

I made a recipe and I would love to see others reviews?

anyone want to try it out??

its sugar free whole wheat banana bread (without fake sugar)

here it is…

“It is very hard to find a good vegan sugar free banana bread that is healthy and does not have sugar substitutes, so I decided to make my own. This recipe makes a moist, delicious and filling treat that will satisfy your sweet tooth.”
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon Salt
4 bananas (the riper the better)
1 egg substitute (You can also just use
one egg)
1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/2 cup unsweetened orange juice

1/2 cup dried fruits (optional)
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a large mixing bowl mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.
3. Smash the bananas until smooth. And add to dry ingredients then stir.
4. Add the egg or egg substitute, apple sauce and orange juice, stir. Then add the fruits and nuts.
5. Pour into a greased loaf pan.
6. Bake for 50 minutes.

I mean come on!
its sugar free, vegan, and whole wheat.

nutritious and delicious.

which is the best balance for a vegan?

I’ve seen numerous results for a vegan food pyramid, like how many servings of each group I need each day. Any opinions on which is the best?

Here’s 3…

1) 5 or more whole grains, 3 or more fruit, 2 or more legumes(legumes including fortified soy milk as well), and 3 or more vegetables.

2) 2 fat, 2 fruit, 4 vegetable, 6 grains, 5 legumes/ nuts/other protein rich foods.

or…

3) 2-3 fortified dairy substitutes, 2-3 beans/seeds/legumes, 6-11 whole grains/breads/rice/pasta/cereal, 2-4 fruit, 3-5 vegetable.

How do I make the transition to Vegan ?

I’ve been a vegetarian for almost 3 years now and I want to become a vegan but I’m afraid it’s going to be very difficult for me. It would not be hard for me at all to give up raw eggs/milk etc. but I love things like pastries and pancakes which have animal products in them. It may not be a problem to make these foods with veg. substitutes if one: I did not live with my parents (they are vegetarians but I think they would go crazy trying to make me vegan meals and I couldn’t do it alone) and more importantly I am currently living in overseas (Southern India) where it is hard enough getting important food, forget finding egg substitues and such! I can’t even get “free range” here =(
So what do you think? Any suggestions? Should I just wait until I move back to the US to decide if I want to go Vegan? Either way, I would feel a lot better eating free range but I can’t get it here so what should I do!?
so many typos in that-

What vegetarian dishes do non-vegetarians really like?

No tofu/’meat substitute’ stuff. Just good, solid, hearty recipes that happen to have no meat. (Or fish. Eggs and dairy are fine, though — vegetarian, not vegan.) I’m not thinking of anything too exotic, either — more the sorts of things you might serve to meat-and-potatoes types if you didn’t cook meat yourself.
Okay: I said no fish, no tofu. And Caesar salad isn’t even vegetarian…

No wonder this is always so hard.

A good-quality scratch mac-and-cheese is good, yes. So is ratatouille (though that sort of thing isn’t always a hit with the meat-n-potatoes-only sorts). More answers, please…!

I need help from vegan bakers..please.?

I myself am not vegan or anywhere close by my coworker is and I know she bakes a lot and I wanted to surprise her with some vegan desserts as well as get ideas if I ever opened my restaurant. I wanted to know if anyone had either recipes or knew good substitutes for the following…creme brulee, panna cotta and chocolate mousse. I know agar agar can be used for the gelatin and cornstarch with water can sometimes sub for the eggs and there is milk subs but the one I can seem to find is heavy cream sub. I would ask my coworker but I wanna keep it a surprise. Please any info will be helpful.

I have moral conflicts with an experiment, can someone give me suggestions?

This is super Iong, I’m sorry =( Please read it and tell me your advice!
I have posted this already in the Vegetarian& Vegan section, but I decided to post here as well, to get the point of view of an educator.

I am in AP Environmental Science.
Tomorrow, my teacher plans on doing this lab that is supposed to demonstrate the proper disposal of harzardous wastes. We are to build containers out of plastic, cardboard, and paper, and we are to put eggs inside and drop each container from a high place, to test which material/structure will keep the egg safest.
I have told her that I don’t feel comfortable dealing with eggs and that I am definitely not buying any. She said I could use someone else’s eggs, but she just doesn’t understand that I don’t want to use eggs, period.

I have been a lacto-vegetarian my whole life (that means no meat/fish/eggs, but I could eat dairy) and I have now been a vegan for almost two years. I’ve been raised in a household that does not condone animal cruelty. I’m not trying to be lazy by saying I don’t want to do the experiment; it really does conflict with my morals to use eggs. It is a very crueal industry. Even if I were to use “humane” or “organic” eggs, I would still have a problem with it because eggs are a symbol of life and I don’t want to treat life so lightly. I have moral and spiritual reasons, but my teacher won’t listen to me. I was very polite but firm when talking to her.

I have considered two options:

1. Finding a suitable substitute to use in place of the egg in the experiment. My boyfriend has suggested a water balloon. Of course, the experiment results will not be exactly the same as with the eggs, but it would still have the same purpose.

2. Just not doing the experiment.

I am trying to opt for the first option because I want to find a good alternative and show her that I want to learn but I don’t want to use products of cruelty.
Using animal products is also harmful to the environment but not many people want to think about it (including my teacher)

SO BASICALLY…do any of you have suggestions for egg substitutes in the experiment?
And have any of you had experience with this kind of thing; what did you do and are there any laws or rules that state that if a student is morally against something, they are not required to do it and should be offered an alternative assignment?
I think that would be reasonable, but I’m not sure if there are rules like that.
My mom would totally write a letter to my teacher, haha, but I am looking at other options first.

Vegans, pescatarians, lacto-ovo pescatarians…..?

I’m trying my hardest to eat healthy….right now i think i’m a lacto-ovo pescatarian….yes i know that true vegans believe that pescatarians and lacto-ovo pescatarians aren’t true vegetarians….but i do i get there? I actually came a long way because i was a true carnavore once, I ate steak and chicken everywhere that i went. but now i just eat fish, milk (with my chocolate chip cookies, but i’m starting to substitute regular cows milk with soy milk), fruits and salads because i really don’t like vegetables although i’m trying to. So my question is, how do i cut fish out of my diet, what can i do to feel full after i eat fruits, what recipes are there for vegetables because so far i’ve just been eating ceasar salads, and is parmesan cheese vegetarian, and if it’s not then what do i substitute it with. Also, for the true animals lovers, i’m not trying to be a vegan to save the animals, because they are just animals, they reproduce, they die. I just want a healthier lifestyle.

I’m really proud of myself!!?

So, here’s a question:

What’s your favorite vegan/vegetarian recipe?
Wow thanks for the cupcake recipe… might have to buy that book.
Yea thanks for reporting me. I asked a question. “Whats your favorite vegetarian/vegan recipe. ?” Maybe you should read the question before your report, Sherlock.

That’s not a legitimate answer. Reported.

I might stop drinking milk….but….?

I’m vegetarian and have been for over 5 months.. I actually started out vegan, but I bought way too many things that were organic and substitutes for meat and dairy that it was all together $70 dollars a week just for myself. So I decided to just eliminate meat.
Well, my opinions and views about cruelty and the treatment of animals are growing stronger and stronger lately. I also want to make it my job to make any curious people aware about the conditions these factory animals are living in.
But more recently, I saw a cow on a farm with swollen heavy udders and she could barely walk. So i’ve done some research and realized that I just CANNOT drink milk because I’d be supporting the horrible thing I witnessed.
But I can’t eliminate all dairy YET. I love milk, and cereal. But. I drink and eat excessive amounts of both, and it’s probably good if I discontinue that.

But will I be a half-@$$ vegan then? =/

is it true that honey is considered non-vegan!?

i recently stumbled upon a blog with a cake recipe.
anyway the recipe called for honey as one of the ingredient’s
but also made a note that it can be substituted with agave nectar for a vegan version,

for meat eggs and dairy i can understand why on account of taking a life or subjecting the animal to an inhumane environment.

but with bee’s as far as i know you’re just letting them roam free and providing them a home to return to when they’re done.
and you only smoke them away for a brief period so as not to hurt or get hurt to extract that honey.

a little insight would be helpful,
btw.
i am not a vegan just curious about the matter,

Help! Being vegan is making me lose too much weight!?

hello, i’m 17 years old. I’ve switched from vegetarian to vegan for three months and have lost A LOT of weight.. this isn’t exactly a good thing for me because now i’m 5’8″ and 104lbs (very under weight). Im starting to get scared. I was 112lbs before i went vegan and i want to gain some back. I’m not a junk food vegan so I know i am getting the nutrients i need, i’m eating balanced foods with meat substitutes and dairy subs. Yesterday I had oatmeal for breakfast, a broca “chicken” pattie burger for lunch with spinnach, and a bowl of rice with beans for dinner and ate a bananna with as a snack late in the evening. This is a usual routine. I even eat vegan chocolate brownies. Is this normal? does anyone have any suggestions? if possible please give me the brands of vegan safe weight gain bars/foods. i’m seriously scared that im going to have a heart attack or something from being so thin. maybe i should go back to being vegetarian to gain weight from eggs/milk fat products or something?
EDIT: I never thought about nuts, potatoes or avocados. I have a container full of almonds, and i never paid attention to them. Also, in cooking I always limit the amt of olive oil thinking oil was unhealthy. Now I’ll add it to everything I cook. Thanks for the suggestions, I didn’t realize that my diet was so low in fat until today. I will try to increase my intake of carbs and olive oil.. for tonights dinner i’ll figure something out with what I read here. Thanks!

A good (vegan) chutney and side dish pairing?

I have these breaded, baked tofu pieces I made that taste great but I’m on day two of leftovers now and I’d like to try something different… like maybe try them with a chutney. The breading is mostly a simple corn meal and flour mixture and is a bit salty and a bit savory.

I’m looking for something spicy and not too fruity for the chutney, I’m looking for a really good vegan eggplant or tomato chutney or something similar.

Any side dish pairing that you see fit is also really appreciated.

Please, vegan dishes (though if it has dairy or eggs I will find a way to substitute, I have even adapted chicken recipes and used seitan or tofu instead and had great results, so if it’s a great recipe that you’d vouch for, I’m willing to work for it).

P.S. I’d really prefer recipes you’ve already tried because I already made a vegan eggplant chutney I found on a recipe site and it was greasy and awful… I’d love something you tried at home, and any other suggestions. I could do recipe copy-paste stuff myself.

Cake substitutes for vegans?

My friend is a vegan and at my b-day party we are going to make individual cakes. Are there any substitutes you can put in the cake to replace milk and eggs?

What should I do; my teacher insists that I do a lab involving eggs, and I have moral conflicts?

This is super Iong, I’m sorry =( Please read it and tell me your advice! No anti-vegan trolls please. ;P I have quite enough to deal with these couple of weeks.

I am in AP Environmental Science.
Tomorrow, my teacher plans on doing this lab that is supposed to demonstrate the proper disposal of harzardous wastes. We are to build containers out of plastic, cardboard, and paper, and we are to put eggs inside and drop the container from a high place, to test which material/structure kept the egg safest.

2. Just not doing the experiment.

I am trying to opt for the first option because I want to find a good alternative and show her that I want to learn but I don’t want to use products of cruelty. She seems to be very anti-vegan. She refuses to discuss the effect of the meat industry on the environment. I find it very irritating and totally misleading. I understand if people don’t want to be vegan/vegetarian, but it bothers me when “environmentalists” refuse to acknowledge one of the most damaging industries in regards to environmental destruction and climate change. Anyway, off my soapbox..

Does anyone know?
My mom would totally write a letter to my teacher, haha, but I am looking at other options first.
Btw, should I post this in the education section instead? I don’t know..I feel like more people here in this section could relate and help.
Well even if the eggs were not fertilized..it’s still a cruel industry.

Thanks for the answers, it is helping me think of ideas of what to do. =)

Vegan and vegetarian help?

Okay well recently I have become a vegetarian, and I know what the difference between it and Vegan is.
I want to try to become a Vegan but I don’t know how I can give up milk. I drink it at every meal. And cheese too. I’ve heard there are substitutes for almost everything. If so, what are they? Are they any good? And can I find them at a Walmart?
Also I come from a very big family of meat eaters and they are now having trouble cooking meals for me.
I like to cook but I’m not that advanced. Does anybody know any simple vegetarian friendly recipes that I can cook myself? And maybe some Vegan too so I can gradually become one.
Please and thank you(:

What can I use in place of eggs when baking?

I’d like to bake cornbread but all of the recipes I can find call for eggs. I have made several cake/brownie recipes that call for oil rather than eggs and I was wondering if I could use the same oil substitute for the cornbread recipe. If so what amount would be equivalent to two eggs? I’m cooking for a vegan.

Question about being vegan?

I am slightly dumbfounded by the differences between vegetarians and vegans. I can rationalize and understand why someone would be vegetarian. I don’t agree with it, but that’s my baggage. However, I can understand not wanting to eat/harm animals, etc. However, one of my contacts recently asked about cheese substitutes for making the jump from being a vegetarian to being vegan. So I can assume that a vegan can’t eat cheese. Why is this? Cheese is made from animal milk. How is this considered bad or wrong for human consumption? We eat breast milk as infants. To not milk animals actually causes them pain, so it isn’t for the benefit of our four legged friends to not use the milk they produce. So what is the reasoning behind this? I’m not looking for attacks or snide comments. I’m trying to expand my understanding of others choices and lifestyles.

A question for vegans?

I am a vegetarian, currently. I’m trying to ease myself into being a vegan, though. This is random question that just popped into my head, so I’d thought I’d ask it.

Say you moved to a house with a lot of land and decided to get a few chickens, goats, cows, whatever. Would you, as a vegan, consider eating eggs from the chickens or drinking milk from the cow? This question is mostly directed at those who are vegans due to the ethics of slaughterhouses, but anyone is free to answer. I know that vegans don’t eat dairy/animal by-products, meat, but since you know exactly where the eggs and milk are coming from, I’m wondering if you would change your mind and eat dairy.

Why or why not?

BQ: What are some of your favorite vegan substitutes for cheese/yogurt/eggs?

Where to find soy meat?

Is it something I can find at my local walmart?
Oh, and if an egg substitute product is made from 99% egg product, is it vegan. I don’t think it is……

i want to make vegan muffins?

i am going to substitute eggs for banana and butter for apple sauce. what can i use to substitute the buttermilk with out soy or ne other nut milks etc..

Pretty dumb question?

I haven’t eaten a “flesh product” in almost a month.
I ate organic cage free eggs.. and then I read online that they are still not humane even though on the package it says certified humane. Apparently I have different views on humane than the egg people do? And I switched to Soy milk. So basically.. I eat cheese still..and chocolate(Is there a vegan substitute for either that is ACTUALLY good??) OH and the mock meats I’ve been conusming are marked vegan.
ANYWAY dumb question..
(I feel like its a club or something lol) But when do you consider someone a vegetarian? lol is there like an initiation? Do I gotta pay a fee? (obviously im kidding) But when do you consider someone a “true” or “typical” vegetarian??
I realize there is a difference between vegetarianism and veganism.
I’m not ready to to transition to veganism until someone tells me a good substitute for chocolate and cheese ha: )
No, I’m soley asking about the vegetarian thing… not vegan.

vegan brownies?

what could i use to substitute eggs in brownies?

My newly vegan friend wants to know if there are any cheese or yogurt substitutes out there?

She like me was vegetarian for a long time but eventually went vegan.
Im happy because she saw all the videos I posted and then went vegan.
Happy vegan=] yay
lol
So she asked me “Are there any cheese or yogurt substitutes made from soy or anything?”
I personally don’t care for soy products. Just this week I went from soy milk to rice milk, it made my throat itch!!
So I hope I can help her=] I wont take the credit

thank you for taking the time to answer my question
God bless=)

IF YOU ARE SIGHTSOUNDS:
People’s personal choice to be vegan or vegetarian does not harm you in any way. So give it up with answering our questions like an ignorant know it all. No one’s changing because of you.
So dont waste your time answering, unless you desperately need those two points.

vegan birthday cake?

what’s a good recipe for a vegan birthday cake? It doesnt have to make a lot, just enough for my daughters 1st bday. She’s allergic to egg & dairy, & I need to use ingredients that would be relatively “on hand”, so not special, extra purchase type things, but suggestions about what could substitute would even be helpful(full recipes preferred :) )
Also, it’s not a must-have, but I’ve been looking for an “on hand” way to sweeten it w/out using white sugar. ok, that’s all I need. Thanks for the help.

A few questions about turning vegan..?

- What are vitamins I miss from dairy, and how can I make up for them?

- Should I take adult vitamins or the kiddy ones (I have arthur, but I also have some other ones which have more vitamins/minerals)

- What are the best vegan foods you liike? (not tofu, etc.. I dont really like meat substitutes much)

My mom already buys soy milk because i dont like cow milk(like a glass of it)
Any tips for becoming vegan? Im already a vegetarian. (lacto)

Help finding Vegan food?

I am from Texas to start off.I was looking around for some stores that carry meat substitutes, but every single one I found still contained egg whites in them.

Is there a particular place where I can go to find food that’s especially for Vegans??
V-gain, I am in Dallas.

vegan substitues ?

okay well i dont eat seafoods, beef, pork, poultry, eggs or milk products, what are some good things i can eat to get iron and protien, and substitute these things so i dont get defiencies

Vegan: How do you deal wanting to revert back to ovo-lacto?

I’m having one of these days where I’m feeling like I want to revert for admittedly selfish reasons (missing favorites which there are no good substitutes for). I absolutely hate the cruelty that goes on in the eggs and dairy industry and how our entire society is practically built upon the suffering of other species and yet sometimes I can’t help myself but want things for taste and for convenience.

What are some good foods to help me acquire abs?

I’m going for freshman football next year and would like to be in shape.
I’m a vegan so the foods that would be beneficial towards my muscles would have to either not have eggs, milk or meat in them or have substitutes for them.
To Thor: I don’t eat meat, because of ethical reasons, i’ve done some research and i disagree with you saying that meat is “full of proteins”, But thanks for the suggestion! :)

what are some good egg substitutes?

say for example, to make buckwheat pancakes with (using soy milk?).
Im talking about something I can find at the local Kroger, nothing I have to send off for from a vegan web site.
Thanks for any help :)
thanks for all your answers. I havent seen the energy egg replacers yet, but Ill ask an employee. Ive pretty much combed the organic/healthfood/vegetarian/vegan section repeatedly though.
i saw one by the soy milk that had egg whites in it, but that wont do.
Ill bug the guy that runs that section. he did order some more tempeh when i asked him to ;)

vegan pancakes?

ok im just making the box type pancakes that need the mix, milk, and eggs. for milk im just using soy milk, but for the eggs i wanna know if applesauce will work and how much i need for every egg? if you dont think applesauce will be good tell me a better substitute, thanks

Banana bread- using soy flour and ground flax?

I’m vegan and I want to make a banana bread that’s really healthy (high protein, omega fats…). I have soy flour and ground flax seeds that I want to incorporate. I’m wondering how much soy flour I can substitute for regular flour, and if I can add the ground flax on its own, or do I have to decrease the amount of flour. I was thinking I could just add the flax in addition to the regular ingredients, and then just add more mashed banana or soy milk to compensate for the dryness… any thoughts?

making vegan brownies?

If I want to make brownie mix and the recipe calls for three eggs, what can I use to substitute? I’ve heard of vinegar and applesauce.

I know they’re traditionally made with egg whites, but has anyone discovered a way to substitute for them?
Thanks, but I mean macarons, not macaroons.

> do you know any milk-substitutes?

Those are my questions!!
Please answer! =]

Vegan question?

Can I eat egg substitute?..or imitation crab meat?

What can be used to replace soy yogurt in a recipe?

The recipe is a vegan chocolate-chip cookie recipe. I have made it before, but the recipe calls for a small amount of vanilla soy yogurt, which I currently do not have. I am trying to cut back on soy intake anyway, so I was wondering if something else could be substituted. Chocolate non-dairy, non-soy milk perhaps? Nothing dairy or egg based, please. Thank you very much.

i want to make vegan fried rice?

Suggestions for a vegan diet?

I am a 15 year old year and I am a runner. I’ve been having trouble with allergies. I found out that I should stay away from all dairy products even dairy substitutes including soy, tofu, or rice milk. I still want to be sure I am getting enough calcium and I miss my desserts and cheesy foods :( Any suggestions?

How bout a VEGAN green tea cake?

Anybody got a recipe for one of those? Dont want to use bannanas as a substitute, would ruin the flavor. How exactly are the eggs used in the recipe? Thanks!

Names of vegan-friendly pizza chains?

Having a vegan pizza may not be as simple as holding the cheese. Even the crust and sauce may contain milk or other hidden ingredients. So my question is, are there any national chains that don’t use hidden ingredients, whether you substitute soy cheese or have no cheese?

Are there any mycoprotein substitutes for vegans?

Quorn products contain milk and/or eggs, so are not suitable for vegans.
substitutes containing mycoprotein I should have said

How do I make vegan cupcakes? [Need substitutes for dairy]?

I know I can use Margarine for butter
And soya for milk
But what can I use for eggs?

Good substitute for yogurt?

I am contemplating becoming vegan from vegetarian, as I recently dicovered that even cows certified to give organic milk are butchred for meat way before their natural life span.

But yogurt is going to be the most difficult thing to give up for me. Any good substitutes for yogurt? I don’t want to eat soy yogurt, as I heart soy is not good for guys as it encourages growth of female hormones. So any other suggestions?

How can I make Vegan Hash browns?!??!?

I was Vegetarian for about a year, and today I went Vegan! And I love hash browns, but I know that usually we put egg in it! What should I use as substitute? Or does anyone know a good recipe?

What texture do vegan cakes normally have?

I’m not vegan but I made a vegan cake for someone. Since I’m giving it to them, I couldn’t cut into it and taste it except for the crumbs from the parchment paper I used. It came out really moist and it seems like it’s more of a denser consistency/texture like a brownie than a light and airy cake. Are vegan cakes supposed to come out like that?

I used all purpose flour, vinegar, baking soda, baking powder, oil, sugar, cocoa, vanilla extract, chocolate pudding mix (no animal products in it) and salt. The recipe calls for water too but since i’m gonna make vegan whipped cream out of coconut milk, I didn’t wanna waste the liquid portion of it so I used that to substitute part of the water. I’m wondering if there’s a way to make this cake lighter and less dense. I sifted the dry ingredients twice.
I always put pudding mix in my cakes including white cake and they usually still come out really light.

I want a raw vegan choc chip cookie recipe that I can make with the things I have at home…? HELP PLEASE!?

I have vegan chocolate. I don’t have any nuts but i have sunflower seeds and I have oats and muesli. I have cocoa as well if I need that… I have soy milk, but no egg substitute, but I don’t think you need milk or eggs in raw cookies so that shouldn’t matter. I don’t have dates, but I have sultanas. I don’t eat honey. I have coconut milk AND coconut cream but no coconut or coconut oil. I have no dates:(, but I have sultanas. I have linseed/flaxseed meal..lol
Why the fu(k would you even answer my fu(king question if all your going to do is tell me not to be a vegan or tell me how to fu(king live my own life!? Just becase I don’t like to contribute to the MURDER or AGONISING torture that you the rest of you non-vegan, shameful, shi.t heads out there. Do I come and tell you how to live your life? No, because your a horrible person who has decided that they like to hurt other species that can’t protect themselves.

Another Vegan Question?

I have been a vegetarian for 2 months and I want to be a vegan. I have studied about the cruelty to cattle, chicken, fish, pigs, and every type of animal used in animal testing. I am sick of it. I want to be animal cruelty free for my life. I know I will have to make sacrifices on items such as some soaps and skin products, and on foods such as milk and eggs. But I am willing to do this.

I need names of any good testing-free shampoos, soaps and other beauty products. I also need names of soy milks, tofu, cheese substitutes, and other foods that take the pace of all dairy products. Support to my efforts would be appreciated.

PS: No smart a** comments, please.

Vegan Imitation meat. How to make it?

I’m not talking about tofu. It has only complete protein like real meat but the texture is still very different from real meat. Tofu is more like cheese.

I tried to make some imitation meat from soy milk protein(fresh tofu skin). But it was unsucssesful. But I can use that as egg substitute.

I’m not also talking about tofu skin or yuba. It is just like rolled paper.

I’m talking about the texture of the meat which is like it has strands on it.

My Requirments
1. It should be from soy milk if possible.
2. It should be rich in protein.
3. It is ok if it has no taste. I can do my own base.
4. It should be gluten free.
5. It should be prepared natural as possible.
6. It shouldn’t be fried.
7. Is can absorb taste from vegan broth/stock.
8. It should be vegan.

Sorry for my English if it is hard to understand.

How much is too much soy milk?

I am new to the vegan/vegetarian lifestyle…and am used to taking in a lot of milk (desserts, creams, sauces, etc.). Can I safely substitute Silk for all this milk? Say, 2 cups a day? I don’t really care for the taste of the soy milk, so I am not drinking it….but I do want to use a lot of it. Is there a reason I shouldn’t?
I am choosing to avoid eating animal products because of what my doctor calls “dangerously high bad cholesterol and dangerously low good cholesterol”. So, no cow’s milk for me.

Should I go vegan or no?

I became a vegetarian when i accepted a bet for a weekend. I just kind of stuck with it and then I quit.Like I got sick one day and I quit because I wanted some chicken noodle soup from my grandmother.
I’ve quit like a total of 3 or 4 times.

This time I doing it for my health. I want to lose some weight and put my body back into natural balance.I read Skinny Bitch a couple months ago and totally forgot about it.But now I can’t get it out of my head.

I forget everything so i worry that i’ll forget that i’m a vegan (which i did one day when i was veggie).

And I also had the substitute.
All the egg substitutes have real egg in them now
The soy products make me want to puke.
I love the boca products though. That’s about the only ones that i’ll eat.

I don’t want to have to take supplements because i refuse to eat and drink the disgusting soy substitutes and some of the gross vegetables that some vitamins can only be found.

What do you think I should do?
Meat or no meat?
I’m super forgetful.I’ll tell mysefl to do something, go upstairs and totally forget about by the time i’m half way up the stairs. It’s not that i’m not dedicated. I just forget everything.
please don’t preach to me about about the animals. i know all about it. it’s a great cause but it’s not my cause. i’d rather have my reasoning be to give water to the starving children in africa.

Meals for Vegan kids?Any ideas for fussy 3 yr old who consumes mostly soy & processed foods.?

Calling all Vegan Moms & Dads! (And anyone with Vegie kids!)

My son is a healthy 3 year old Vegan. He never gets those runny nose colds so common of his age which is awesome and I am sure that this is good for hi :) However, I am concerned that now with him getting older that he really needs to be eating more. He is actually a little on the bigger side for his age (not overweight but very tall and solid/muscular), but this is not because of his solid food intake but I think mostly because he gets a lot of calories from soy milks and other types of milk like rice and oat. He also eats a lot of processed vegie sausages and other meat alternatives and snacks.

I really need to find ways to get him to eat more vegies and things that are mixed together (which he is a bit funny about), like lasagne or a plate with a few different vegies on it (rather than just peas, or just lentils for eg).

What ideas or tips and tricks do you have to share with this frazzled vegan mom? I just feel stuck.

Thank you!!

Oh note that although I use the term Mom, it is just a preference-Im not in the US, but in Australia. So we don’t have as much choice with Vegan friendly foods/substitutes here unfortunately. Although some things are imported (like cheezley :)
Vegans don’t consume dairy or egg. Some people think Vegan means Vegetarian but there’s a big difference lifestyle-wise.

Vegan brunch menu and/or recipes?

I am a vegetarian and aspiring vegan, and I am hoping to improve my family’s veiws of vegan cooking with a kick-ass vegan Easter brunch. I would like to serve something with protein, like tofu, a meat substitute, or an egg substitute. Any recipes or general menu plan ideas are greatly appreciated! Please reply quicly, as Easter is only 5 days away! If you don’t know what vegan is or don’t have any helpful ideas, please don’t answer this question. The “pros” of eating meat and dairy have been pointed out to me.
Apparently, my original question was automatically censored. I will revise this comment by saying I would like to prepare a wonderful, delicious, awe-inspiring, meatless, dairy-free, egg-free brunch.

non-dairy substitute for buttermilk?

i am not vegan, but i don’t eat anything from a cow.
also, if you happen to know, is there a good egg substitute as well?

I am vegan, but it’s kind of hard.?

No, I’m not saying it’s hard because I’m giving up a lot of commonly eaten foods. It’s hard because my family eat both meat and dairy in pretty much every meal. I’m 14 so I can’t just go out and buy things on my own and my parents don’t really have a lot of money to buy two separate diets. I already have some meat substitutes, soy milk, and tofu. But I heard it’s not good for you to just base your vegan diet on just those substances. I also have those yeast flakes that you’re supposed to put in your food.

But, yeah. I don’t know what I should do to make it easier on both me and my parents.
@by Kayla7x:
I talked to him before. He’s one of the reasons I went vegan.
Why do you guys bother coming to the Vegetarian & Vegan section if you’re just going to make fun of people who don’t eat meat/meat and dairy products? Seriously, get a life. I asked for help, not who can piss off the most vegetarians and vegans.

What’s worse (ethically) – Quorn/ other meat substitutes or organic meat?

I’m vegan, but there are non-vegans in the family whom I have to buy food for. They get organic meat occasionally but they don’t mind eating a lot of veggie meat substitues instead but many of these contain eggs and milk. For sandwhiches, although the family enjoys vegan ‘meat’ I don’t always have it as it’s a long journey to the shop where I can get it, so I’ve been getting Quorn ‘meat’ for them, which contains eggs and milk. I’ve been wondering lately what’s more against my beliefs. I know nothing died for a bit of quorn, but the eggs and milk in it are presumably battery farmed and so I’m supporting something I don’t believe is right (although I don’t think enforcing veganism’s right either.) Is supporting an organic, free range farm by buying their meat better than supporting battery farms by buying Quorn and other meat substitutes? I already buy organic milk/cheese etc for the non-vegans.
Michael H – I didn’t know that the vegetarian Society’s emblem on products meant any eggs were free range and livestock was not fed GMO or slaughter products. That’s very useful, thanks for that.
Redhead – read the question properly. I’m not eating anything with eggs in it. However I could insist that my household become vegan or else. My partner would leave (and eat more meat), my kids would go and live with their dad (who feeds them meat at everty meal), I’d be sad, lonely, bitter and twisted and everyone would think I was a nut and anyone who heard of me would reckon vegans were scewballs. Yes, thats a good idea! So much better than leading by example…

How do they make those vegan cookies?

Cookies normally have egg in order to make them stick together. Is there some substitute that will work for this?

Need help going from vegetarian to vegan!!!!?

I have been a vegetarian for a year now and have tried switching to full vegan a couple of times but found it to be 2 difficult! I am big on snacks but could not find any snacks that did not have milk or eggs. I also like eggs and have yet to find a likable substitute since I do not like tofu very much. I have not yet learned to make it the way that I enjoyed. But I want to try becoming a vegan again as New Year resolution and I need to learn ways to substitute/cook good enjoyable vegan dishes.

PLEASE I need suggestions on where to buy seitan! I live in Las Vegas and have looked everywhere even online to buy seitan but with no luck. I am a college student so budget is very tight and don’t have a full kitchen so need one already made. Please any suggestions on very informative and useful cookbooks and tips would be greatly appreciated!

Best vegan cookies?

I’m vegan, and my friends and family have been really great about it. They support me and I’m thankful. But, I still don’t think they understand we can eat more than lettuce and sprouts. I would love to make really great vegan cookies (or another dessert) that will show them that you can eat and enjoy without using animal products. I have lots of ingredients that are vegan (soy milk, soy yogurt, tofu, etc.) plus all the kitchen basics (flour, salt, vegetable oil, baking powder/soda, oats, raisins, fruits, veggies, etc.). Any suggestions that will blow them away?
P.S. I am out of egg substitute (I do have banana though), I dont have any vegan chocolate/carob, and I don’t use margarine.

Going Vegan Help?

I am already a vegetarian and I want to go vegan. I don’t consume any animal produce mostly, however I drink excessive amounts of milk (in the area of 3 litres per day). I only eat fruit and vegetables and have not eaten anything other than that for years now.

My question is:

How do I give up milk? It tastes so nice and I tried to substitute it with soya milk however it is OK but I could not drink it like normal milk. It literally is like an addiction. I hate it if I have to go without it for more than a day.

Thanks x
Nope, no nuts at all since I am allergic :(

Favorite Vegan Recipes?

I’m a vegetarian, but I have a lot of vegan and vegetarian friends, and I want to have some of them over for a meal. And I’m looking for some good vegan recipes, I found some, but I really dont know if they even taste good. So I figured I can ask on here.
So what is your Favorite Vegan Recipe? Please post the entire recipe.
And also, how can you make Vegan-Friendly cupcakes from box-cake. What do you use to substitute the eggs? I’ve heard of bananas, diet coke, or egg substitute, what in your opinion works best?
I look forward to seeing all the replies!

PS: Don’t just come on here and say how dumb it is to not eat meat, you just sound ignorant and close minded.

Why cannot I seem to like the taste of soymilk/ricemilk? I want to be a vegan so bad!?

Okay, so I have tried five vegan products (as a sub for milk) so far and only one of them I have semi-liked. The one I semi-liked was the Silk chocolate soy milk. Chocolate milk is way better than chocolate soy milk, but it’s not too bad. The other 4: original rice milk, chocolate rice milk, vanilla silk soy milk, and original edensoy soy milk are NASTY.

I love 2 percent milk and chocolate milk and am looking for a substitute. I asked this question a while ago and took suggestions, but it was still disgusting. What is my issue? Why am I failing at being a vegan? Suggestions? I just cannot find a product I really like all that much.
Additional details: I’m a full vegetarian and trying to transition to vegan. I have been a full vegetarian since November, 2008.
pet: Thank you, but what about for cereal? Ok, I know I sound pathetic, but I would really like a sub for white milk. I seriously don’t know what my issue is with “vegan milk”.

Questions about becoming vegan?

Okay so I’ve been a vegetarian for over 6 months. It hasn’t been a challenge for me at all and the only “bump in the road” I encountered was when I found out about Starburst not being vegetarian-friendly because of the gelatin in it in May. After that I have been very cautious to check for gelatin in all foods etc etc. Anyway so now I have decided I would like to go vegan after reading a horrible article about chickens. It seems like such a hassle though and a big responsibility but I am finally willing to put effort into it and make it work. First off, to be vegan, food aside, what are “rules” you have to follow? About leather and other animal-related non-food products? And now onto food. I noticed that a lot of those meat-substitute microwaveable meals have some kind of milk ingredient in them I forget what it is though, it’s like something-milk, cultured? Or I don’t know…sorry :( but anyway I was wondering, are all meat substitutes off limits when you are a vegan? Basically what I’m wondering is what I CAN eat. I can’t have any bread or cake or any kind of ice cream, right? Are there egg substitutes? I’ve tried Almond and Rice milk before, are those ok to drink? Soy? Are there any vitamin supplements I should take? What am I allowed to have for sweets like instead of cake and brownies and stuff because I know that if I stick to veganism I am bound to want this stuff eventually…basically if anyone could explain to me what I can eat and what I have to watch out for, what foods that you wouuldn’t normally think aren’t vegan AREN’T vegan, etc etc…thank you so much in advance!!!

Teenage Vegan?

I have been vegetarian for almost a year now. I eat no meat, fish, or gelatin. Recently, I have thought about going vegan…my reason is for the animals. The problem is, I drink/eat dairy everyday! EX: Milk and eggs especially. And, my biggest substitute for meat was cheese. I also love to bake cookie and cakes for my friends/family. What are good starting tips for a teenager going vegan, who is left to cook on her own, and who doesn’t have a lot of time to cook. Also, is any kind of bread not vegan? And, what are some stores that sell vegan stuff, like yogurt, ice cream, and cheese etc. Because I normally have to end up looking stuff up online.

Question about egg substitutes.?

I’m making something for a vegan friend of mine, and my cake requires eggs. So I’m wondering, are there any egg substitutes that will keep my cake the yellow color without really changing the taste?
Egg beaters are eggs. They’re the egg whites.

simple vegan recipe’s?

ok so my girlfriend has decided to stick with the vegan thing so making dinners for us has become… lental soup, waffle fries, or vegan chili… so i’m trying to find something… we can buy and pop in the oven or microwave that’s good, filling.. and vegan, most of the recipe websites recipe’s have a list of 1234134 ingredients where half of them are hard-to-find expensive items and milk/meat substitutes.. so if anyone could point me to a website or give suggestions of your own of simple recipe’s of things we can just throw together quickly or things that dont require a long list of special items that would be great

Best vegan milk and cheese substitutes?

I have been vegetarian (no meat, fish or eggs) for some time now, but am ready to also cut out animal milk products. I have tried soy milk but was not crazy for it, especially in coffee. I like cheese in savory dishes, but I have heard that soy cheeses are pretty uninspiring. Can someone recomend some milk substitutes that taste good, and that aren’t full of dozens and dozens of man-made ingredients and chemicals?
Also, can someone recommend their favorite vegan recipe and lifestyle websites to me?

i want to go vegan, but my mom doesn’t approve?

currently i’m a vegetarian. and i want to go vegan. but, my mom doesn’t approve of being vegan. she said that she used to be vegan and became very unhealthy. i keep trying to tell her that that was in the 70′s, and nowadays it’s easier to get substitutes for things like milk and cheese. but she thinks it’s unhealthy. advice?
also i’m 16 and she says i’m still growing.

Where can I buy a vegan puff pastry dough? Or, if need be, how do I make it without eggs or butter?

I would prefer to buy it pre-made. If I have to make it, I want the dough to come out the same way as the regular puff pastry dough, without the egg or butter ingredients, so I need to know what substitutes would work as well. I have checked the Trader Joe’s website, but didn’t find it. Are there other vegan stores around the Detroit Metropolitan area that I can call?

Why does everything have gelatin in it!?!?!?

I have recently become a vegetarian and I love it. Plus, I don’t use animal tested products and leather. I recently learned where gelatin came from and I was totally mortified. I also have been looking at the ingredients…and almost everything has gelatin! Butter, Jell-o (duh), cake, ice cream, cereal, almost everything i eat! I want to avoid a lot of gelatin but it seems impossible!

Yes, I know there are snacks without gelatin (swedish fish, yay! haha) but what about butter and jell-o? I used to love jell-o! Is there any substitutes (that they sell at local grocery stores) for the things that are hard to avoid?

**I know I am only a vegetairan and not a vegan, but I still don’t want to eat cow bones and skin. And yes, I know not eating meat is a huge plus, but for me, it doesn’t seem like enough. Like, why skip meat when you are still eating parts of an cruelly slaughtered amimal?

Please give me advice and suggestions. Thanks!

***By the way, does anyone else think it’s disgusting that Caramine is made out of squished up insects? And it’s in wine and other redish colored things! EW!

Great. I can’t find anything to eat for breakfast…first day as a vegan.?

Ugh. I’m starving and we have no soy milk or egg substitute or all of that lovely stuff……do you guys have any ideas what I can eat for breakfast??!! I’m going crazy here haha. Anyways, my choice was rushed to become a vegan because of the gruesome truths about what happens to the animals in the meat/dairy business so I haven’t prepared…does anyone know of some really good like frozen stuff that I can buy? Thank ya.

To Nine:
It wasn’t for a fad and I am taking it seriously. I nearly puke when I look at any animal products, knowing how they were treated during the process.
To the one about buying locally: no can do there aren’t any places to get stuff like that where I live.
Nine:
1. I’m taking it seriously, so f you if you don’t believe me…why should I care?
2. IF you actually read what I had and have a weak tolerance for animal abuse like I do you also would jump to do what ever you could to save these animals.
3. I can’t just drive myself to the store, seeing as I don’t have my license, plus I live in the middle of nowhere so I can’t just walk there or take a bus. So I can’t just make my happy way to the grocery store and buy what I want.
4. I asked what I should eat, not your opinion on my decision, so keep it to yourself,
5. As to talking about me saying “first day as a vegan, haha” I am one of those people who laughs at myself a lot. If you take yourself too seriously then life is no fun, so I don’t care if you don’t think I’m serious, because I know that I am.
